Dr. Andreas Hacke is partner at Zwanzig Hacke Meilke & Partner (zhmp) in Düsseldorf, Germany. He studied law in Heidelberg, Leiden (NL), and Bonn and holds a PhD in law from Muenster University. Before joining zhmp, he worked for Hengeler Mueller.
Andreas is regularly appointed as business mediator and arbitrator to resolve complex international and national commercial and corporate disputes from a broad range of industries (e.g., automotive, rail, aviation, infrastructure, gas and power, renewable energies, telecommunication, IP/IT, food and beverages, real estate) and in corporate disputes (e.g., post M&A, D&O liability, shareholder disputes, company succession). He has handled more than 80 cases in these capacities. He acts as sole arbitrator, chairman of arbitral tribunals, party appointed arbitrator, sole mediator, co-mediator and neutral expert. Andreas has also been appointed as expert witness on German law before foreign courts.
Apart from his work as neutral in dispute resolution, he practices as specialized lawyer (“Fachanwalt”) in corporate and commercial law. In this capacity, Andreas advises clients in the preparation and conduct of complex business negotiations and dispute resolution matters including strategic advice and litigation risk analyses, as well as in M&A transactions, corporate restructuring, commercial dealings and in engineering and construction matters.
He is i.a. a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, UK, “Distinguished Neutral” at CPR (International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution), New York, USA, member of the Commission on Arbitration and ADR of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Paris, France, and member of the German Arbitration Institute (DIS), Bonn, Germany. Andreas is a CEDR accredited international mediator and also a CEDR trained mediator in investor-state mediation. He is member of the Abu Dhabi Global Market Arbitration Centre and CEDR Investor State Mediators Panel.
Besides his practical work, Andreas also works as academic in the field of dispute resolution. His research and publications focus on legal and strategic aspects of negotiation, mediation and arbitration.
Andreas holds a post as Visiting Lecturer at the University of Oxford, England, and teaches within the BCL/MJur/MLF courses “Commercial Negotiation and Mediation” and “International Commercial Arbitration”.
He is author of numerous publications in the field of dispute resolution and co-author of the German standard book on business mediation (“Mediation in der Wirtschaft”, 3rd edition, 2019). Further, Andreas is regularly invited to speak at conferences on dispute resolution topics. Finally, he acts as author of and trainer in vocational training courses on dispute resolution matters for practitioners.
